World Wide Words: Privacy policy

Any details you give, whether relating to your own subscription or to the recipient of a gift subscription, will be used solely to maintain the World Wide Words mailing list.
We never pass subscription information to anyone else for any reason.
However, subscription requests are logged to aid security and to check that the system is working properly; these logs are kept secure and are deleted from the site after 14 days.
The site does not use cookies and we do not store personal data about the pages you view. However, we use Google Analytics to analyse site usage and that system does set cookies (with names like __utma, __utmb, etc).
The list server (which automatically manages subscription requests and the despatch of e-magazines) blocks unauthorised attempts to view the list of subscribers; even other subscribers cannot gain access.
Although the list server is physically in the USA and this site is hosted in Germany, since Michael Quinion is based in the UK the site is managed to conform in all respects to British data protection legislation.
